The implementation of Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) at Rosendin Electric did not get off to an auspicious start. They had recently begun migrating from Oracle Business Intelligence (OBIEE) to OAC and had high expectations for their new system but were finding it difficult to get timely, quality results from it. Come to this presentation to hear how with Vlamis’s help, Rosendin identified root problems with the way OAC was being implemented, capitalized on OAC’s Data Visualization interface, and demonstrated the value of OAC. You will see examples of how Rosendin is using OAC to transform itself into a truly data-driven business. This involved using Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), to transform data into a newly-deployed Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW), and visualized using Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC).

Philippe, Senior Director of Product Management for Oracle Analytics (OA), will share some of the recent advancements across the various aspects of OA and amongst other things unbox some of the augmented features that have been recently delivered. Philippe will deep-dive on a few new aspects of OA that lead it to be seen by the Forrester Wave as a leader in its most recent analysis of the analytics marketplace. American Eagle Outfitters were mired down in a web of Excel spreadsheets being used to perform all the FInance function operations. Qubix collaborated with AEO to implement an automated, centralized Oracle staging area and a single Essbase reporting cube with all of the commensurate dimensionality and functionality to comprehensively facilitate all executive and operational financial reporting.

With thousands of out-of-home advertising locations across the United States, OUTFRONT Media needs to understand and analyze their productivity and potential through extensive map-based views and spatial analytics. You’ll see how Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse and Spatial Studio were combined with Oracle Analytics Cloud to present a highly evolved custom map-based analytics interface for OUTFRONT’s Real Estate team.

Mark Daynes, Beyond Systems

If you have ever thought “which of my customers are within five miles of my store?” then you’re thinking spatially. Perhaps you’d like to highlight these customers on a map and be able to see who is spending in a specific time period? Oracle’s Spatial Studio makes spatial analysis and visualization more accessible to analysts who do not need specific spatial syntax knowledge. In this presentation, we will load, geocode, analyze and visualize data to demonstrate many examples of the capabilities of Spatial Studio including cluster maps and data changing over time, and other features in the Spatial Studio 21.3 release. We will then perform various analysis of this data including selecting customers in a specific region and customers closest to a specific store. We will go further and show how the results of our analysis can be leveraged by other tools, including Oracle Analytics and APEX. The aim of this presentation is not just to give you an overview of some of the capabilities of Spatial Studio, but also the confidence to explore and get value from your data in ways you may not have previously considered.

Oracle Application Express (APEX) is a popular rapid web and mobile application development framework, included with Oracle Database. APEX 21.2 introduces native support for Oracle Spatial with several new features. This includes a new native Region type for maps that can source from Spatial, and new Item types for geocoding and mapping an address or coordinate. When paired with the longstanding ability of APEX to leverage Spatial operations with standard SQL and PL/SQL, these new features allow APEX developers to more easily create robust location-based applications. In this session these new features will be explained and demonstrated.

Topics covered include a new CBTREE spatial index optimized to handle streaming point data from IOT devices and other sources, leveraging parallel query to maximize throughput of massive spatial computations,
new techniques to optimize spatial data storage that greatly improve spatial query performance, tips to maximize nearest neighbor performance, important considerations when partitioning spatial data, and lessons learned in real customer use cases that apply to many.

Oracle Machine Learning (OML) enables data exploration and preparation, and model building, evaluation, and deployment at scale. For Oracle Autonomous Database in early 2021, OML expanded to include an integrated Python API (OML4Py), REST services for model management and deployment (OML Services), and a no-code user interface supporting automated machine learning (OML AutoML UI). Since then, we’ve introduced multiple enhancements and new features to the OML product suite. Join us for this session to learn about the new Oracle Machine Learning capabilities along with demonstrations.

Traditionally, the use of machine learning is in the domain of the data scientist. The latter has in-depth knowledge of machine learning methods and algorithms and strives for the most optimal preparation of machine learning models, which are then used for various analyses such as predictions, customer segmentation, anomaly detection, finding patterns and the like. Because the machine learning process usually takes a long time, even a few weeks, the data scientist is a rather “rare species”. Business users usually need results quickly and often don’t have time to wait their turn. They are faced with the dilemma to choose between lower accuracy over the speed of development of machine learning models.

There is no doubt that there are business problems which require machine learning models that provide accuracy as high as possible, but on the other hand there are situations where speed of finding an advanced analytics solution is even more important and when “good enough” model is acceptable to the business.

Regardless of the dilemma described above, one thing is in common to both approaches. It is the machine learning process which must be implemented in any case. It is now commonly expected that this is supported by any analytics tool. Oracle Analytics certainly fulfills this requirement.

The workshop Business Users and Machine Learning in Oracle Analytics will look at not only a few examples where a business user can use machine learning algorithms, but also what options are available for the whole machine learning process and how they can use them independently, without the involvement of data scientists and/or other IT professionals. Of course, we will also look at scenarios when data scientists are available and how the results of their work can also be used in business analysis.
